Did you return to school after your friends?
A main goal of my blog is get advice and support from others who returned to school as adults? Did you too push back your education? If so, I’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment so we can share tips and horror stories.
I don’t want to disclude non-adult students. I’d love to get feedback from students who pursued a traditional path and those who didn’t seek higher education. I’m sure once I start school, I’ll see not every student is 18 and talking about the newest reality television show on MTV, but right now I’m feeling lonely in my pursuit.

I’ve gone back twice … or three times, depending on how you count it … went right out of highschool, worked for years - then a car accident interupted my career. Couldn’t work with messed up kids anymore so I tried working with adults.. that SO did not work for me!
Burned out - so I went back to school and took computer programming. I CAN program - but it is sooooooooo damned BORING … so those who can, do …those who can’t teach
Still teaching..but also went back and got my degree in English.Finished that this spring and now I’m in a different university doing a master’s, also in English … and then hopefully, a Phd at yet another university.
Where I did my undergrad English (and where I teach) there are lots of mature students; where I am now, not so much… but either way, it will be fine
Profs like mature students - they tend to try a LOT harder
I’m in my second semester since returning to school full-time. Next term I’ll be transferring a 4-year university where, despite have over 100 credits, I’ll basically be a Freshman again due to my major (having to take all of the Freshman courses).
I had put off school to join the military, and found that I missed it once I enlisted. So I took classes here and there, but it was hard with the deployments and changes in assignment. Now that I’m in the Reserves, I can focus on school full-time, and I’m determined not to stop for anything. But there’s a part of me that says to just give it up and work with the education I have to start a civilian career.
Thanks for the support everyone. It was such a great feeling to login and see your well-written lengthy comments. I’m glad I’m not alone!
